Got a story to tell? Tell it with a Melbourne Producer, and you could get the Australian Government’s Producer Offset. That’s up to 40% for feature films or up to 20% for television and other formats.

Yes, there will be some paperwork and probably some legalities. But it’s totally worth it. Not only will you be working with some of the best crews in the world, you’ll be working in one of the most exciting cities in the world. And you’ll be filming in locations that can double for just about anywhere.

You don’t even have to change your story to make it Australian at all, like making sure it now includes koalas. (Although we have some A-list koalas in Melbourne if you do need them.) 

So what would constitute an official co-production?

Here is the technical info:

A film or television program approved as an official co-production is regarded as a national production of each of the co-producing countries and may apply for any funding or incentives in both countries.

Australia has co-production treaties with Canada, Germany, Ireland, Israel, Italy, the UK and most recently Singapore and China. A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with France and New Zealand is also in place and a co-production treaty with South Africa will soon come into effect. Australia is currently negotiating co-production treaties with India, Denmark, Malaysia and the Republic of Korea.

Screen Australia is responsible for the International Co-production Program in Australia and has produced some handy guidelines that outline all the requirements and the application process.
